Summer is on its way and with it comes rising temperatures. Pets cannot tolerate high temperatures as well as people can and they rely on rapid breathing to exchange hot air for cool air. Can you recognize signs of heat stroke or hyperthermia in animals?

Being unable to calm down, even when lying down.

Saliva may be thick
Gums and tongue may be bright red.

How to Describe a Vehicle when calling 9-1-1

Train yourself to notice the following details and remember CYMBAL:

C:  Color - include dark or light in your description.

Y:  Year   - estimated

M:  Make - foreign or American-made, Honda, Ford, Volvo, etc.
     Model - Honda Civic, Accord; Ford Mustang, Taurus, etc.

B:  Body Type - sedan, two door, convertible, truck, station wagon, van, etc.

A:  Additional Features - damage, dangling muffler, custom paint job, etc.

L:  License Number - speciify the state of origin

   Direction of Travel
Example: A red, late model, Dodge station wagon, Washington license plate number, ABC !23, with a large dent in the rear bumper, heading west on South 9th from ...

Here are some helpful hints to keep burglars from helping themselves" at your home when you're gone for an evening or an extended period of time

  • Keep valuables and gifts out of sight.

Reporting properties in violation of Health Code

Recently several citizens have asked what the process is for reporting properties in violation of the Whatcom County Health Code.

The codes specifically addressing Solid waste is Title 8 and Title 24. “Solid waste” means: All putrescible and nonputrescible solid and semisolid wastes, including, but not limited to, biomedical waste, garbage, rubbish, ashes, industrial wastes, swill, sewage sludge, demolition and construction wastes, abandoned vehicles or parts thereof, contaminated soils and contaminated dredged material, and recyclable materials.
